No Mirror Makeup Challenge

This is a challenge a friend of mine has been urging me to do for quite a while. It’s bloody difficult and I’d like to share this struggle with you all.

I decided to do a full face of makeup because why not. I also decided to do something that was quite similar to my normal look.

Products used:
Smashbox Camera Ready BB cream in fair/light
Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in the shade Romance
Tony Moly’s Cherry tinted lip balm – applied with brush
Maybelline Colour Tattoo eyeshadow in 35 Tough as Taupe
Essence Kajal Pencil in 01 Black
Rimmel ScandalEyes Retro Glam
Innisfree no-sebum mineral pact.

Process:
I started with the BB cream, trying to ensure that it covered all of my face and properly melted into my skin. It’s a very easy product to work with and that’s why I chose it over my other base products.
Step two was the eyeshadow and this was not easy. The thing is, like the genius I am, I decided to work with a shade I hadn’t used before. It was honestly because I couldn’t find my go to ones. I opted for a light application after realising the product was really dark and based on the photos it doesn’t look too crazy.

The single most difficult thing to do was the eyeliner/kajal. You have no idea how difficult it is to find your waterline without looking before you’ve tried it. This is the only part of the result that made me go “uh better fix that” after looking at the photos. It’s not disastrous, I just need to clear it up with my finger tip or something. As usual I didn’t do a solid line along the lower line, but rather did one about halfway through.
The mascara was alright to work with. This was a completely new product that I’ve had around for a while but never used. I was worried the wand was going to be too big, but I decided only to do my upper lashes and it looks fine. My eyelashes are really straight so it’s difficult to capture the effect in pictures but it looks alright.

I knew I wanted to do a lip with a bit of colour. I also knew that I could probably have applied a full red lip with my favourite lipstick without looking. However, I wanted to try something different that I occasionally do on casual days. I used the Revlon lipstick and dabbed it onto my lips to generate a bit of colour. Then I went back in with the tinted lip balm/stain/whatever and used a brush to ensure the product was evenly applied. Using the brush made it a lot easier to feel exactly where the product was being applied and that offered some welcome control.

Lastly I used the no sebum compact on certain areas of my face that I knew are a bit too prone to shine for comfort.

Result.
Honestly, I’m quite happy with it. Beyond the small eyeliner mishap, I’m really happy with it. I’ll probably clean that eyeliner up and then actually wear this for the rest of the day.
If I’d used a mirror I probably would have done some spot concealing, but you can’t do that when you can’t see the spots you need to cover. I might go back in and apply a little bit of concealer where needed.

I expected this to be far worse.
